December/January/February 98/99

Willow Tree at Fishing Pond, December: A large weeping willow was planted at the Fishing Pond in Columbia Park.   Marilyn Hyde, Cindy Cole, Duane Job, Kennewick Staff

March/April/May 99

Arbor Day Tree Planting: Three beech trees donated by the three Benton County Commissioners Max Benitz, Leo Bowman, and Claude Oliver were planted at the Family Fishing Pond area in Columbia Park.    Marilyn Hyde, Carol Moser, Cindy Cole, Duane Job

Tree City USA: Richland received “Tree City USA” award.  Members participated in presentation ceremony.    Carol Woodruff, Carol Moser, Howard Madsen

 Katsura Tree Demonstration/Evaluation Planting: Marilyn Hyde donated the money for the purchase of three Katsura trees to be planted in the Family Fishing Pond area to see if they do well here and are hardy for this region.     Marilyn Hyde, Duane Job, Cindy Cole, Carol Moser

Earth Day:  The council participated in Earth Day activities at Howard Amon Park with an exhibit about urban forestry.    Earl Miller, Carol Moser

Earth Day Tree Planting: Planted five trees donated by the Blue Mt. Federation of Garden Clubs (1), Duane Job & Family (3), Marion Job (1), Forestry Council (1)were planted in the 24th St. Park in Pasco.  Marion Job, Sr.  Three Beech trees also were donated by Kathy Job, to be planted in East Columbia Park at another date.     Duane Job, Bruce Schnabel, Marilyn Hyde, Howard Madsen, Marianne Ophardt, and Carol Moser

June/July/August 99

Pilot Tree Inventory: A tree inventory and health assessment was done on the trees in Volunteer Park in Pasco. A map with tree locations, species, and general health were provided to City of Pasco as part of the partnership agreement.    Earl Miller, Bruce Schnabel

September/October/November 99

Growing With Trees ESD Workshop: An application for an urban forestry grant for $6,000 from the WA Department of Natural Resources was made. Partnership funding and support allowed the council to provide for the match required for this grant. The grant request was for funds to help in providing an eight hour ESD teacher training workshop about trees for teachers and develop a tree curriculum for grades 3-5 for this workshop. The grant was approved. The workshop was held on October 16. The training was successful and a repeat workshop is planned for next spring. As a follow-up to the training each of the schools participating in the training and using the curriculum will receive trees to be planted in the spring of 2000.    Marianne Ophardt, MCCFC Members, Dave Evans, Dorothy Evans, Michelle Woodward, and Steven Woodward

Playground of Dreams: The council donated a northern red oak and Duane Job & Family donated a honeylocust for planting at the Playground of Dreams in Columbia Park .    Cindy Cole, Duane Job, Marilyn Hyde

Recognition of Partners: Presented recognition plaques to Oak Partners - the Cities of Kennewick, Richland, and Pasco.     Marilyn Hyde, Betty Thorpe, Howard Madsen, Carol Woodruff, Bruce Schnabel, Earl Miller, Marianne Ophardt
